Jim Reed

Co-founder and Managing Member

Jim has a background in Mechanical Engineering and Business, with thirty five years’ experience in business activities ranging from start-up incubators to mature global entities. Mr. Reed has spent most of his career involved with the development and deployment of new products that are based on new technologies; most developments were related to the application of custom or unique polymers.

Jim graduated from UC Berkeley with a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and is an alumnus of the Executive Program INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.

Ray Stewart

Ph.D., Co-founder and Managing Member

Ray is a polymer scientist and entrepreneur with a successful track record in conducting breakthrough applied research, and growing new business ventures. Prior to establishing Bay Materials, Ray was the founder and chief scientist of Landec Corporation, a public company that successfully developed and commercialized a new class of temperature responsive polymers, Intelimers®, and products enabled by them.

Prior to founding Landec Corporation Ray was a scientist at Raychem Corporation a Fortune 500 materials science company.

Ray holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota and has over 35 issued U.S. patents.

Chris Vogdes

Director, Research & Development

Chris has over 20 years in materials-based technical product research and development.

Chris has been successful developing and launching new products in Automotive, Medical, Electronics, and Consumer industries; managing projects in Raychem Corporation, Dow Corning Corporation, Cordis Corporation, and Pionetics LLC. She managed a QS9000 silicone gels business unit that supplied materials to major OEM companies producing automotive connectors, flat-screen TV’s, and military/aircraft communications equipment.

Chris holds both a BS in Chemistry and MS in Chemical Engineering from MIT. She holds 8 issued US patents.

Aimee Luthringer

Manager, Operation & Quality Systems

Aimee has 10 years of experience in quality systems and operations management. She develops and maintains our manufacturing quality system and provides feedback upstream to improve manufacturing processing and yields. She enjoys statistics and applying the scientific method to test hypotheses and solve challenges. In addition Aimee leads Bay Material’s facility safety program.

Aimee has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg Florida.

Klaus Dahl

Principle Scientist

Klaus has 45 years of experience in materials science and engineering with a major focus on applied polymer technology. Comprehensive understanding of polymer synthesis and the structure property relations of polymers.

Klaus’ major contributions have included: Poly (phenylene ether ketone) synthesis and manufacture; material and process development of airframe wire & cable products; preparation of porous substrates for electron-osmotic fluid conveyance and for super capacitors. Selection and evaluation of polymers for medical devices. Management of departments responsible for: R&D of heat resistant polymers, materials characterization and information services.

He has worked for various companies in Germany, Canada and the US.

Klaus has BS in chemical engineering (State School of Engineering, Berlin, Germany), BS and PhD in chemistry (McGill U., Montreal, Canada) and completed postdoctoral studies in organic chemistry (University of Munich, Germany).

Klaus is sole or co-inventor of twenty-three patents.

John Lahlouh

Senior Polymer Scientist

John has over 25 years experience in the Polymer Industry, Materials Science, Research and Product Development.

John has extensive experience in development of new products, taken from creative ideas through prototyping and ultimately to launching new products in Industrial, Electronics and Orthodontic industries. John assumed various responsibilities at different technical capacities in Raychem, High Connection Density and Bay Materials, spanning materials and process developments in Conductive Polymer Composites, Synthesis of Polyimides, Radiation Cross-linking of Polymers and applications including PTC Polymeric Fuses, Cathodic protection, Orthodontic Aligners and Braces.

John is familiar with various polymer processing equipment including batch and continuous mixers, extruders, injection molding machines, twin-screw extruders and Buss Kneaders.

John holds a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Khartoum and a MSc degree in Chemistry and Technology of Polymers from Aston University in Birmingham, UK.

John holds 8 issued US Patents.

Echo Song

Business Development

Echo is in charge of general activities related to identifying and characterizing product markets, brand image building and promoting sales.

In addition to that, Echo also leads in designing, testing and executing marketing campaigns and managing lead generation programs for Bay Materials products.

Echo graduated from Stanford University in 2011 and holds a MS degree in Management Science & Engineering, she also holds a BE degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China.

Amar Devi

Office Manager

Amar has been working for high tech companies in the Bay Area for over 20 years. Amar started working for Bay Materials, LLC since 2004 as office manager.

Her responsibilities include bookkeeping, general office administration and customer service. Amar is certified user of QuickBooks and CA -Accounting I & II.
